A Fit Chic LA’s Guide to Keeping Fit!

These Ladies Are Obviously Following the Guide!

These Ladies Are Obviously Following the Guide!

The more I sit down with my clients the more I realize the simplicity of why they are not reaching their full potential. I hear things from “I don’t know what to eat” (not true), “I don’t have time to eat healthy”, It’s too expensive etc…

These are the comments that we tell ourselves because we are too afraid of failing, or stepping out of comfort zone, or just plan lazy to change.

When meeting with clients I like to hear what they feel is stopping them and then teach them how to overcome that obstacle (usually very easily). Just remember there is always someone out there who has it harder than you and they are doing it…

Step #1 – CLEAN OUT YOUR PANTRY – If it is not in the house 9 out of 10 times you won’t eat it!

Step #2 – Pre Plan the night before – Look at your schedule and find a day that works best for you (mine is sunday) and plan out your week of meals. You can crock pot, barbecue, or roast but the more you prepare the less you derail from your goals.

Step #3 – Money – Now that I incorporate a paleo lifestyle I actual save $.  I wrote two blogs on how to save money on Paleo here is the blog so check it out.

Step #4 – Have a plan to follow – If you don’t have goals, check points, accountability etc.. how do you expect to be the best you can be. Write out your ideal situation and also be aware of what makes you tick. When you get angry to you reach for  cookies? Do you not eat all day and then gorge at night?? Find out your current routine and begin to incorporate small changes each week until eventually you have become that person you have always knew you could be.

Step #5 – Take 1 minute before reaching for your food – Most of us are creatures of habit. We don’t really want the bag of chips, but it is easy to grab plop down on the coach and before you know the whole bag is gone. So take 1 minute before grabbing and ask yourself “Do I really want this, or am I really even hungry”, when you think about it most of the time you don’t really want that “bad” food it is just an “easy” fix.

Take these five steps fit ones and use these not excuses and you will be hitting your goals in no time!

A Fit Chic Recipe to Start Your AM Off Right….

It is really hard for me to eat a big breakfast in the morning. The thought of eggs, bacon, and fruit doesn’t sit right with me for some reason, especially as it begins to get into the warmer seasons.

What I do love however, is starting my day off with a delicious smoothie. They are refreshing, healthy, and give all the elements needed to start the day off to a great one! These smoothies are great for grab and go and drink in the car. They literally take about 3 minutes to make.

I make this recipe for my clients, my family, and myself….

It is nutritious and delicious and will give you something to look forward to in the mornings.

8 oz of unsweetened almond or coconut milk

1/2 frozen banana or (4-5 frozen banana pieces)

1 tablespoon of raw sunbutter, almond butter, or peanut butter

1 cup of spinach leaves (fresh)

1 scoop of vanilla or chocolate whey protein

1/2 cup of crushed ice

1 teaspoon of honey

* optional – 1 teaspoon of unsweetened shredded coconut flakes

In a blender combine ice, milk, banana, nut butter, whey protein, spinach, honey, and coconut on medium to high until it has a “shake-like” consistency.

Sometimes I have to use a spoon to stir intermittently and then continue to blend. If it is too thick, you can always add a tiny bit of water to help it blend.

Now you have no excuse to not eat the most important meal of the day anymore!

You Can Be Ordinary and Great!

One of the big misconceptions in life is you have to be born into money, go to ivy league schools, have an “impressive” portfolio etc…

I believe if you work hard and have and continue to want to grow, learn, and improve that you have just as great as chance as the next person.

My husband and I are starting a new business and we are have been putting a lot of planning into it.

Goal setting, plan of attacks, knowing your market and how to appeal to them at all times, foreseeing road blocks, preparing for growth, etc….

When you really engage yourself into every aspect of your business, you begin to have a very clear concise vision of where you are, where you are going, and how to get there!

A great salesman Grant Cardone once said “Eliminate options as they lead to distractions”. The more ways to essentially let your self off the hook, the harder it is to stay on track.

Here is a great blog post from Robin Sharma, one of the greatest leadership mentors in the world. The post lists the 51 ways Ordinary People Reach World Class.

If we have vision, focus, and passion for our cause, it does not matter where you came from you can all make it to the top!

What is one thing from this list that really caught your eye Fit Ones?

A Fit Chic LA Adult Playground

Here is to Having Fun and Staying Fit!

Here is to Having Fun and Staying Fit!

I came across this great article from the NY Times in regards to taking our fitness back to the playground mindset!

Play grounds are the highlight of our youth so why does it have to end there?

I have a few clients that I train in a nearby park. The park has set up “fun” workout equipment as well as the traditional park jungle gym as well. It is so fun to watch adults and children on the “big kids” jungle gym staying healthy and fit in a “fun” environment.

I watch my 10 year old sister and she is in some physical activity every night of the week. If she is not at dance or tae Kwon doe.. then she is running around chasing the dogs, jumping on the trampoline, horseback riding etc.,… She is not only staying very healthy and active she is having a great time doing it!

So Fit Ones, check your local parks and recreation websites and see if there are any “Adult Playgrounds” close to you. Put the “Fun” back in fitness, instead of looking at it as a daunting treacherous chore!

Happy Friday!

For cookies….

In a food processor, place almond flour and protein powder pulse briefly.

Add butter, honey, cinnamon and vanilla and pulse until ingredients are well blended.

A Fit Chic Way to Eat Cauliflower….

So lately I have been obsessed with cauliflower! I literally could eat a whole stock in one sitting. My husband was making fun of me recently, he said ” You are looking at that cauliflower like it’s a big piece of chocolate cake”.

I love love love cauliflower and I want you to share the same love as I do.

Here is a great recipe for you in case you have not found that same passion for cauliflower that I have; this will put you on the way.

I have made this for families I have prepared food for and my own family as well and it was a hit 100% of the time.

1 head of cauliflower or 2 bags of prepackaged cauliflower

2-3 cloves of garlic ( I prefer 3)

1/4 cup of olive oil

2 tablespoons of pesto

1/2 teaspoon of pepper

1/4 cup of sun-dried tomatoes

1/4 cup of parmesan cheese

Heat oven to 450 degrees.

Combine cauliflower and garlic in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, pesto, pepper, and sun-dried tomatoes.
Transfer onto a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Take out of the oven and top with cheese and then bake for another 5 to 10 until cheese is melted and cauliflower is lightly browned.
